The Crown

Artist Statement:
The Crown was created in the aftermath of King Charles’ coronation celebrations in London, reflecting on ideas of authority, identity, and the meaning of royalty. While earthly kings are exalted in splendour, Psalm 8 declares that we are crowned with glory and honour — a truth that challenges traditional hierarchies of power. God teaches us that He crowned Humans with dignity, and to rob others of their dignity is to defy God himself.
The collage of regal imagery, graffiti interventions, and raw colour fields questions the display of wealth and pageantry in a nation where the most vulnerable continue to suffer under the weight of the cost-of-living crisis. The work asks: what does it truly mean to wear a crown?
For the artist, the answer is found in faith — that a true king serves rather than takes, uplifts rather than oppresses. The Crown is both a critique of earthly systems and a reminder of divine identity, where dignity is not bestowed by royalty or riches, but by God Himself.
